La catedràtica del departament serà també l’encarregada d’inaugurar el col·loqui, amb la conferència “Pronominal Enclisis and allomorphy, a challenge for theories of the phonology- morphology interface”.
This course, framed within Optimality Theory (OT), will consider two approaches to phonological domains, one that relies on a single step of evaluation, a fully parallel model (model 1), and one in which smaller domains constitute the input to larger domains (model 2). Model 1 has been implicitly or explicitly assumed in many OT analyses since the early days of OT, while model 2 is essentially an adaptation of the framework Lexical Phonology and Morphology (Kiparsky 1982) to OT, also known as Stratal OT. A key aspect that will be considered in the course is how these two models access morphosyntactic information. In model 1, derivationally or inflectionally related words can only be linked through different types of output-output faithfulness constraints which force either similarity or contrast. In model 2 different morphosyntactically-based domains are proposed (stem, word and phrase), each one being submitted to a specific constraint ranking, with a key role given to cyclicity. These two models will be compared through the description and analysis of several phonological processes in languages like Catalan and Spanish that include fricative voicing and s-aspiration. As will be shown, it is important to pay special attention to the behavior of prefixes, which cannot constitute independent words. The role played by the prosodic hierarchy in these two models will also be considered.
Eulàlia Bonet
És catedràtica al Departament de Filologia Catalana de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) i membre del Centre de Lingüística Teòrica (CLT) de la mateixa universitat. Ha dirigit diversos projectes d’investigació i ha estat directora del CLT els tres últims anys. Va fer els estudis de llicenciatura a la UAB, amb una tesi de llicenciatura sobre l’entonació del català. Va obtenir el doctorat al Massachusetts Institute of Technology amb una tesi sobre les combinacions de clítics pronominals sota la direcció de Morris Halle. La seva recerca se centra en la fonologia i, més específicament, en la interacció entre la fonologia i la morfologia i també entre la fonologia i la sintaxi. Ha treballat en temes com les ròtiques, l’epèntesi, l’al·lomorfia i la relació entre informació morfosintàctica i exponents, la fonologia i la morfologia dels clítics pronominals i la relació entre dominis sintàctics i dominis prosòdics, majorment en Teoria de l’Optimitat i assumint models de la gramàtica d’inserció lèxica tardana, com la Morfologia Distribuïda. Encara que la major part de la seva recerca se centra en dades del català, també ha treballat sobre l’espanyol i el basc i ha fet estudis comparatius que inclouen altres llengües del món.
